  1. Run exe from networkshare

    1. Need ability to run exe across the network without having to grant Domain Computers Read\Excute rights to the exe.
    2. Microsoft and Citrix need to work together on the TargetInPackage=False when the exe within the package is ran across the network. Citrix Application will not work when this switch is False.
    3. We port out App-V applications over to Citrix. We have quite a few that run an exe across the network that need to be sequenced. They have Prerequisites in the package and Connection groups to outside applications that are also needed. More Functionality within App-V and Citrix…

    • Publishing refresh status indicator?

Sometimes it can take a while before apps are ready to be launched. Would it be possible to have a status indicator that informs you when publishing refresh is complete / in progress?
Currently using redirected start menu on App V 5 full infrastructure.

      • Reinstate the option to enter a PVAD

The list of applications that can't function if sequenced to the virtual file system (dummy PVAD) is getting rather long. See a maintained list at http://www.tmurgent.com/TmBlog/?p=2264. I just had another application (Oracle SQL Developer) that won't work if the -EnablePVADControl parameter is not used. Read about it here: http://www.sweserijnen.nl/?p=332. With merged roots in Connection Groups there is no real need for a dummy PVAD anymore, so please reverse the PVAD option and make defining a PVAD the default option again.

        • Improve the Package Converter to identify missing shortcuts from osd files

In my blog post (http://www.sweserijnen.nl/?p=340) I identify a misleading conversion warning that can easily be fixed or described differently.

The warning states "The icon folder for this package is missing. This package will still convert successfully. However, there will be no icons associated with the applications." while there is no <MGMT_SHORTCUTLIST> entry in the osd file. Either fix the wording of the warning or see if with Powershell and regular expressions the original osd file can be edited to incorporate a proper <MGMT_SHORTCUTLIST> entry.

            • Analyze the cause of a sequencer crash

              Hello community,

Some months ago I did post a case in the technet forum about a specific application that brought the sequencer everytime to crash with the final step when I've tried to save the package. I've got a lot of possible causes and suggestions what I can do, but none of them worked for me.
With help and effort of the technet community it was possible to identify 5 binary files inside the package which standing in relation to the crash. The same user discovered that it is possible to successful save the package when he removes the identified…

              • Query what Configuration XML was applied to a package

If you apply a DynamicDeploymentConfigution XML File, or a DynamicUserConfiguration XML to an AppV package, it's impossible to tell if - and what config files were applied to the package.

I'd like to see an option added to the powershell cmdlets to tell if - and what config.xml was applied to an AppV package.

The User- and Deployment configuration files that were applied could be added to the Get-AppVClientPackage output.

                • Pinning App Tiles on Win10 Start Screen

Is it possible in App-V 5.1 to create an application tile on Windows 10 Start Screen upon sequencing an Application? I mean rather than publishing an application shortcut, can an application tile be published instead?

                  • AppV5 client shortcut/fta refresh on client update

It could be worth of tons of gold if shortcut/fta gets refreshed when AppV5 client is updating.

Example 1: User accidently deletes/losts shortcuts

Example 2: In migration (from appv4->5) we could overwrite appv4 shortcuts with appv5 shortcuts.

(Now its overwrites once, but if appv4 client get refresh, then it overwrites shortcuts, and appv5 never do shortcut refresh, unless you do modifications to shortcut or unpublish/publish appv5 package again).

                    • App-V 5.1 generated MSI not using deployment config file when publishing.Bug or expected one?

We have discussed about this in TechNet forum thread. Kindly have a look and let us know whether this is the expected behavior from App-V 5.1 or is it a bug to be rectified.

                      • Add client/server OS targetting tag

Currently it's possible to target your package to "ALL" operating systems, or to specific selected OS's. I would like to see a third option, and that's server/client targeting. So if you check for instance "Server", it will be deployed to ALL Server operating systems (current and future), but not to any clients (win8/win10/etc),

I have heard of Project C which Ms is working currently. As we are in transition phase to migrate existing 4.6 packages to 5.1 I would like to know how to leverage App Store for most of LOB applications primarily when they move to windows 10 ?
Any work on this or documentation would help here .

                            Dear all,

                            Very interesting reading.

Making us feeling less alone with our frustration with the new version of App-V 5.x.

Allow me to add my comments to these feedbacks.

From a general point of view, the company I’m working for is:

                            - Very impacted and globally unsatisfied by the big changes coming with App-V 5.x, changes that are modifying the underlying philosophy of the product.

                            - Currently looking at alternative solutions to get back the core features we had in App-V 4.6 and that we no longer find in App-V 5.x.

                            - Is wondering about Microsoft roadmap regarding the evolution…

                            • Start Virtual Environment before launching EXE (like in App-V 4) so we can put shared resources in a separate package

In App-V 4 the Virtual Environment was started before launching the EXE. Therefore it was posible to put a DLL (shared resource) in a separate resource package (package A) and the main EXE in a different package (package B). Both files are placed in the same folder during sequencing, for instance C:\Program Files\Application. Put package A and B in a Connection Group and start the EXE from package B wich loaded the DLL in package A.

In App-V 5 this is no longer possible. Although VFS is merged, the Virtual Environment is created after launching the EXE. So at launch…

Why do we have to fiddle around for an hour trying to get the pre-reqs sorted for AppV 5? Can this not be part of the install? And as someone else mentioned, why do we have to install on a separate server separately? Can this not be achieved from the install wizard?

                                  • Enable custom tokens

                                    AppV5 token-izes various paths ({AppvPackageRoot}{ProgramFiles},etc)

We have applications that span numerous folders on {AppVPackageDrive} and this wouldn't be an issue, normally, except we set our PackageInstallationRoot to a different drive. AppVPackageDrive expands out to the root of the drive in the PackageInstallationRoot registry key, but when we sequence all of our packages we sequence them to the C:\ drive. When AppV expands out the package on the client system folders sequenced with "C:" now become "D:" and any hardcoded paths within the application now fail.

ACT is a kludgy solution requiring outside scripting and additions to the AppV package…

                                    • Shortfalls of APPV5 compared to APPV4

Over the past few months I've had a number of cases with Microsoft on APPV and a number of very frustrating events leading up to the same answer, "APPV can’t do that anymore, or this should be a local install" Local install? What? isn't that what APPV is supposed to help with. If a new product version is released shouldn't it be able to do everything the previous version did and more??? Well my support rep kept telling me to post here, the product guys will read it. I have my doubts, especially since they won’t talk to us on…

Thanks for your feedback @kilimanj99 and others.

We have been working hard on bringing our customers, such as yourself, the new release of App-V 5.1. So please excuse our lapse in availability on UserVoice recently.

Understandably, App-V 4.x to App-V 5.0 was a big change especially with the underlying architecture being completely revamped. With App-V 5.1, we listened to customer feedback to narrow the gaps from App-V 4.x and to make sure that your transition to the new App-V architecture was as seamless as possible. This included improving the package converter, supporting folder redirection (Q: drive) as well as making improvements to the Server Management console (updated from Silverlight to HTML5/CSS). As noted, some of your feedback has already been addressed by App-V 5.1. We are continually trying to update the product to match our customer’s needs and are tracking issues that come in from various sources such…

The ability to use SCCM delivered App-V apps and App-V Full Infrastructure delivered apps on the same client would be extremely valuable in scenarios where two organizations are merging, one with SCCM / App-V and the other with App-V Full Infrastructure, and you need to gracefully migrate to one or the other.
