  1. Enable custom tokens

    AppV5 token-izes various paths ({AppvPackageRoot}{ProgramFiles},etc)

We have applications that span numerous folders on {AppVPackageDrive} and this wouldn't be an issue, normally, except we set our PackageInstallationRoot to a different drive. AppVPackageDrive expands out to the root of the drive in the PackageInstallationRoot registry key, but when we sequence all of our packages we sequence them to the C:\ drive. When AppV expands out the package on the client system folders sequenced with "C:" now become "D:" and any hardcoded paths within the application now fail.

    • Shortfalls of APPV5 compared to APPV4

Over the past few months I've had a number of cases with Microsoft on APPV and a number of very frustrating events leading up to the same answer, "APPV can’t do that anymore, or this should be a local install" Local install? What? isn't that what APPV is supposed to help with. If a new product version is released shouldn't it be able to do everything the previous version did and more??? Well my support rep kept telling me to post here, the product guys will read it. I have my doubts, especially since they won’t talk to us on…

Thanks for your feedback @kilimanj99 and others.

We have been working hard on bringing our customers, such as yourself, the new release of App-V 5.1. So please excuse our lapse in availability on UserVoice recently.

Understandably, App-V 4.x to App-V 5.0 was a big change especially with the underlying architecture being completely revamped. With App-V 5.1, we listened to customer feedback to narrow the gaps from App-V 4.x and to make sure that your transition to the new App-V architecture was as seamless as possible. This included improving the package converter, supporting folder redirection (Q: drive) as well as making improvements to the Server Management console (updated from Silverlight to HTML5/CSS). As noted, some of your feedback has already been addressed by App-V 5.1. We are continually trying to update the product to match our customer’s needs and are tracking issues that come in from various sources such…

      • The ability to use SCCM delivered App-V apps and App-V Full Infrastructure delivered apps on the same client

The ability to use SCCM delivered App-V apps and App-V Full Infrastructure delivered apps on the same client would be extremely valuable in scenarios where two organizations are merging, one with SCCM / App-V and the other with App-V Full Infrastructure, and you need to gracefully migrate to one or the other.

          • Have App-V Server installation work with remote SQL servers

AppV Server 5.0 sp3 and it seems 5.1 both do not allow me to setup or configure either the Management or Reporting DB's on a remote SQL server. Instead it seems it comes down to running the AppV installer on the SQL server or using sql scripts to setup the databases. The scripts for upgrading from a previous version are also cumbersome and contain bugs (even in 5.1! kb3031340) This is very awkward and not very friendly when compared to how other product installations work, such as SCCM 2007 or 2012, the older AppV 4.5 and third part products. Even…

            • Handling Scripts in App-V 5.0

It would be really useful, if handling custom scripts are made easier in APP-V. Instead of placing scripts in scripts tab and editing the deploymentconfig.xml or userconfig.xml based on the needs, why not we have a separate tab for handling scripts which in turn can be automated to be added in the config.xml files auomatically. eg: placing powershell, VBScript, Batch file scripts in scripts section and we can choose at what point it needs to be run in the App-V Sequencer UI itself, instead of manually editing the deploymentconfig or userconfig files.

              • Allow child processes to run natively

There are often times when I'd like to sequence a process in App-V 5, but want to ensure that some or all child processes don't execute within the App-V bubble and run natively instead.

There are various different problems that running inside the App-V bubble can cause, and it comes up particularly often with applications that allow arbitrary "attachments" or similar to be launched from the App-V application.

For example, suppose I have a piece of help desk software that I'd like to virtualise. The help desk software allows arbitrary files to be attached to a support ticket and allows…

                • Have shorcuts displayed as separate "ApplicationID"

We workarounded some of limitations (for a same app publishing a shortcut to a user group and an another shortcut to an another group and be able to be member of one or both group withou facing an error) I hope this limitation will be resolved a day BUT
We have lots of shortcuts targeting a single exe with different parameters and under app-v 5 sp3 they are all identified by the same ApplicationID. It would be nice to have an applicationID per shortcut to be able to start script depending on wich shortcut is runned without having to turn…

When a subsystem crash there is sometimes no way except restarting the service to make it work again... I will be a good improvement if the service should be restarted without impacting working apps...

Not just priority that are updated only with a change or a new package or Group ID but everything should be "updatable" even the package / connection group is running. I can understand that some subsystem are not updated but blocking the whole object update because of this is just painfull...

                      • bring back icons on repair or sync-appv publishing server

like in good old app-v 4 days a refresh of the applications brought back icons (which users sometimes accidently delete from desktop) again.

would be cool if in app-v 5 this feature will come back.

                        • Provide the ability Remove applications from package from Console

After adding a Package to the console, we are currently unable to modify or remove any applications without modifying the package itself. As with 4.6 console, we would like the ability to change what applications are included with the package without modifying the package itself.

                          • remove Desktop folder after application is deleted

i did a lot of tests with icons for app-v packaged applications.

what i found out is that if a folder is generated for example on the desktop of the user (in our example a folder called APPS) this folder is not deleted if the applications in it got deleted (as the user does not have the access-right any longer for that application). we use folder redirection on desktopfolder.

would be cool if the folder (and the icons in it) gets deleted automatically if there is no more rights for the user to use app-v applications.

                            • Allow delete of a package on content store without having to have all clients check in

If you delete a package off the content store without the clients checking in to unpublish the applications, they throw "There were errors encountered when trying to un-publish packages that have been removed from the server".

It would be great if the un-publish process does not require packages to be on the content server to add dynamics and resiliency as the remediation would be to clear out the client cache.

                              • Allow changing user data storage location (local VFS and roaming VFS, VREG, etc)

I feel managing user application state would be a lot easier if all changes to the VFS/VREG made by users for a particular package were consolidated under a single configurable folder.

By sync'ing this folder or pointing it to a network share, they will be able to have their app state with them regardless of which device they're using.

Right now I'm aware of 3 directories that store app state: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\AppV\Client\VFS, %APPDATA%\Microsoft\AppV\Client\VFS, %PROGRAMDATA%\Microsoft\AppV\Client\VREG

and none of them are configurable as far as I know. For the roaming workflow I described above, all directories storing app state need to be configurable…

currently, you can use PS remoting to mangage "my" packages on "my" remote logged on machine. It would make Operational support of the product much easier if you could perform remote functions for other users on their behalf like

                                  • APP-V 5 SP3 Sequencer BUG

When you are in the stage where you can edit applications/shortcuts in the sequencer, the right pane has a rightclick "edit locations" function but it freezes the GUI until you hit ESC. The tree on the left works fine, however. You can duplicate this whether editing an existing package or sequencing a new one. The left pane works - the right pane freezes..This has been like this for 3 versions and I think APP-V 4.6 does the same.

One place to look at AppV Errors will help everyone to Troubleshoot easily than having Multiple Logs which we have to enable as & on when required.

                                      • Allow delegated administration of App-V packages / Connection Groups

Currently if you want to add / publish applications you have to be given full access to the server management console. We would like to give our sequencing team the ability to add and publish applications, but not the ability to remove servers or change App-V admins.

                                        • Modify the Administrator console to include a way to organize packages that are added (as was the case in APPV 4.x)

APPV 4.x had a method of organizing the console into groups of applications. This made it easier to find and quickly update or modify applications. There is currently no method of organizing the console to put groups of applications together. As we have over 300 applications, the list of "packages" is quite long and rather than searching for a name when you don't always remember the exact syntax of the package name can be problematic.
