  1. Registry functionality in the userconfig xml

    The Registry functionality in the config xml should work more like it did in App-V 4.6, where the code is executed at launch every time in the users context no matter if it was HKLM or HKCU. If I want the registry setting applied in user, then user config.xml; if I want the registry setting applied using system context then put it in the machine config xml etc.

    I,e, <Registry Enabled="true">
    <Include>
    <Key Path="\REGISTRY\USER\[{AppVCurrentUserSID}]\Software\myapp\somekey">
    <Value Type="REG_SZ" Name="hello" Data="world"/>
    </Key>
    </Include>

    in App-V 4.x this OSD edit would apply at launch every time, and the syntax was relative to the user…

          The publishing refresh UI displays the number of packages being published, but it would be nice to see the package names for improved user experience

          • Server Console - Package description not imported from package

            When you set this information in the sequencer when building the package I would like the console to pull this information when I Import the package. It would be fine if this field was editable after the fact. Just the initial import of the package to populate this field would be appreciated.

                    • Document a reference architecture for App-V, SCCM and Windows 10 Enterprise

                      The heart of the desktop strategy in many organization turn around the different applications that need to be packaged, assigned, distributed. We are entering a world where Windows 10 is one of rapid changes and App-V seems to be the recommended approach for application isolation in the CBB pace. However as of now, it is difficult for a customer to start "as new" without an App-V background and trying to figure out the "correct way" to embrace Windows 10 in its completeless. There are just so many choices possible. Microsoft used to produce such "reference architectures" in the past, and…

                      • Support "Set Default Programs" for User-Published Packages

                        Right now, the Application Capabilities Subsystem is only supported for globally published packages: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/appv/2013/01/03/microsoft-application-virtualization-5-0-integration/

                        It would be great to have that kind of integration for user-published packages as well as currently you have to either:
                        - Publish globally and give up on the idea of targeting users
                        or
                        - Publish to users but make them scroll through apps on every unknown extension which is tiring

                          The website to download the 5.1 update for client and rds is included in the x86 platform. the x64 one automatically suggested is providing a 5.1 Mgmt server update. This is extremely confusing and annoying. It must be addressed.

                          • Don't add every App-V application to the "Open With" dialog by default

                            We have hundreds of published apps per user here.

                            One thing we've noticed is that every time a user opens the "Open With" dialog, it takes forever (3-5 minutes) to show up because it tries to populate the dialog with ALL of the currently published App-V packages. This is evident from the fact that once you expand the "More Apps" link, where you can find the names of all of the currently published packages, and from the fact that during the process, the App-V process uses up an extraordinary amount of CPU time (20-50%) and memory (several gigabytes).

                            This happens…

                            • add the APPV GUI also as a feature on Windows 10

                              The APPV client is installed on Windows 10 1607 as feature. But the GUI is absent. We are used having the GUI available for our clients and like to have is available too.

                              • App-V Tokens in shortcut file path arguments doesn't get expanded correctly

                                We have a few packages that create shortcuts that takes other files as arguments like so:

                                "C:\App\app.exe" -run "C:\App\app2.exe"

                                When we sequence a package like this and then publish it using the latest App-V client, the resulting shortcut becomes something like this:

                                "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\AppV\Client\Integration\47A751EF-2D5C-4F58-804F-87F29B6249E6\Root\VFS\AppVPackageDrive\App\app.exe" -run "C:\App\app2.exe"

                                Obviously, the file path "C:\App\app2.exe" exists only inside the virtual environment, so the app fails to find the file and exits with an error.

                                The correct behavior should be to have the path expanded into the following:

                                "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\AppV\Client\Integration\47A751EF-2D5C-4F58-804F-87F29B6249E6\Root\VFS\AppVPackageDrive\App\app.exe" -run "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\AppV\Client\Integration\47A751EF-2D5C-4F58-804F-87F29B6249E6\Root\VFS\AppVPackageDrive\App\app2.exe"

                                Editing the shortcut manually to the above will result in a working shortcut.

                                In fact,…

                                  I so far have been unable to replicate the old Appv 4.x - right click stickle brick and refresh apps :)

                                  • Allow to add Service Accounts over the Management Website as Publishing Identity (Load Balancing)

                                    For a APP-V Load Balancing Environment with two Management Servers, we need to add a Domain Service Accounts as Publishing "Server".

                                    The Service Accounts is used as IIS Identity on both Publishing IIS Pools, and need access to the Publishing Metadata on both Management Servers. That is necessary to use Kerberos.

                                    Unfortunately the Management Website insist to a Computer Account.

                                    • Remove-AppVServerPackage ignores the -whatif parameter

                                      App-V Server Version 5.1.97.0 - When running the PS command to remove a package with the -whatif parameter, the package is actually removed and no output returned. Completely ignoring the -whatif parameter.
                                      The Event log shows the entry - package is successfully deleted.

                                      • Option to disable/remove services from Virtual Services tab in Package Editor post sequencing

                                        We see that there is no option available in the package editor to remove or disable the services after sequencing. Either we need to edit the package again or edit the deployment file to achieve this. It would be good if there is an option provided in the package editor which would make our job easy. We hope this would be available in the next App-V release.

                                        • Support automatic Code Integrety Certificate Management

                                          Securing Win10 systems with Device Guard properly will include the need for enterprises to implement the generation and management of digitally signed catalog files for applications that are not delivered as signed (or also in cases where they don't trust the vendor signing).

                                          App-V could be an excellent place to help the enterprise do this. As part of sequencing, the sequencer knows what all of the binary components are. It can generate the hashes and create the catalog file as part of the capture (what PackageInspector.exe does today). The sequencer VM could be pre-prepped with the code signing cert in…
